Frida van der Poel
This applied art creator exists in the space between art and interior design. Frida's work beautifully blends artistic expression with functional design, creating pieces that are both beautiful and perception-challenging.
She is a founding member of Galerie Zône, and was a great help in organising our first exhibition there. We're honored to have her as a part of our club.
"A new branch has been added to my original SKOK design from the 1990s. SKOK means ‘jump’ in Czech, and it refers to my source of inspiration from Czech Cubism in the 1910s.
It’s a three-legged side table (also be used as a stool), made from a variety of circular components. The primary material consists of old or decayed furniture from Leiden's Circulair Warenhuis and remnants from my own workshop. Only the glue is NEW."
Limited edition: SKOK Bugatti is an original piece, handmade by Frida, and there will never be another.

Materials: The seat is crafted from a 3D-printed biopolymer PHA, which is a highly sustainable thermoplastic. The wood components are black-stained oak, sourced from the remnants of Circulair Warenhuis in Leiden.
Methods: Ongoing material research is conducted by Frida and Bastiaan Luijk, focusing on the seat and other potential components of the NOVÝ SKOK. The 3D-printed seat surface features a spiral phyllotaxis pattern, contributing to both form and function.

Materials: The maple wood used in this piece is from a fallen tree in Oegstgeest, processed by the wind-powered sawmill D’Heesterboom in Leiden. The printed leg is made from recycled PET plastic, sourced from hospital waste and produced by DesignStudioBL.
Methods: The NOVÝ SKOK light object is a reimagined version of the original 1994 SKOK design. Some components have been replaced with 3D-printed, transparent elements, allowing for the integration of lighting, which transforms the SKOK into a radiant and colorful light sculpture.
